WHISKYDINER IN RESTAURANT W.E.E.V.A.
Een stuk Groninger stadsgeschiedenis herleeft aan het Gedempte Zuiderdiep 8-10. Wat ooit begon als de “Groninger Volksgaarkeuken” en in Stad en Ommeland beroemd werd onder de naam “Woon- en Eethuis Voor Allen”, is sinds oktober 2011 weer terug van weggeweest: restaurant WEEVA. Op de plek waar de WEEVA zo’n lange tijd ‘deugdzaam en krachtig voedsel’ heeft bereid voor ‘zeer billijke prijzen’, zijn inmiddels weer betaalbare, oer-Hollandse maaltijden te nuttigen. Precies 140 jaar na de initiële opening, is restaurant WEEVA weer nieuw leven ingeblazen. De nostalgische sfeer van weleer is in een nieuw jasje gegoten, met een duidelijke knipoog naar het verleden. WEEVA staat voor een uitstekende prijs/kwaliteitverhouding, streekproducten, gezonde voeding, gastheerschap & vakmanschap.
Restaurant WEEVA leek ons de ideale locatie om het Whiskyfestival in te luiden. Het whiskydiner zal hier plaatsvinden op 22 maart. Voor €75,- beleeft u hier een onvergetelijke avond met heerlijke gerechten in combinatie met de lekkerste whisky’s. Reserveren kan via www.wfnn.nl
Wij hebben culinair schrijfster Martine Nouet van de toonaangevende internationale bladen Whiskymagazine UK en Whiskymagazine France en Chefkok Johannes Hovius van Restaurant W.E.E.V.A. bereid gevonden om voor Stichting Whisky Festival Noord Nederland een whiskydiner te ontwerpen dat zijn weerga niet kent in Nederland.
Er wordt natuurlijk al langer whisky gebruikt in de keuken, denk alleen maar aan Irish Coffee en Whisky Cocktail sauzen, maar dit “smaakdiner” gaat net even een paar mijlen verder. Martine en de chefkok zullen voor de gerechten gebruik maken van regionale producten en er zal enkel met ingrediënten gewerkt worden die “fair” zijn. Daarnaast zijn alle whiskies die bij de diverse gerechten geserveerd worden stuk voor stuk zeer speciaal, zeker in combinatie met de gerechten, en er zitten ook een paar zeer exclusieve whisky’s bij.
De gerechten en whiskies voor het “Smaakdiner” worden door Martine
en de chefkok
zodanig op elkaar afgestemd, dat de smaakbelevingen van het gerecht en
de
daarbij gekozen whisky elkaar versterken. Martine heeft grote
internationale
bekendheid op dit gebied en wij zijn dan ook zeer blij dat zij dit in
Groningen
weer wil komen doen.
Een stukje historie: Whisky Festival Noord Nederland, voor het 7e jaar op rij een succes verhaal!
Het Whisky Festival Noord Nederland in Groningen is anders van opzet dan de de meeste andere festivals in Nederland. Hier zitten een paar ‘whiskyidioten’ die het voor hun plezier doen. Deze mensen worden bijgestaan door een groep van inmiddels meer dan 35 vrijwilligers, die een hele week en soms langer in touw zijn om het feest in de Der Aa-kerk te laten slagen.
Het eerste festival was in Martiniplaza, omdat de Der Aa-kerk nog niet beschikbaar was. Logistiek was deze locatie perfect. Uiteindelijk is toch voor de Der Aa-kerk gekozen vanwege de geweldige historische sfeer, net als die in de Pieterskerk in Leiden. De importeurs/standhouders hebben daarbij enorm geholpen om alles op te zetten. Er is veel goodwill, ook in deze tijd waarin het economisch slechter gaat en daar zijn wij als Stichting Whisky Festival Noord Nederland uiterst dankbaar voor.
Na een voorzichtige start in 2006 is het festival inmiddels
uitgegroeid tot een publiekstrekker van formaat: er komen in het
festivalweekend ruim 4000 bezoekers naar Groningen en dat is te merken
in de hotels en horeca. Iedereen wil op ons mooie feest in Groningen
zijn. En wij hebben laten zien dat Groningen niet voor niets voor 2011
verkozen is tot Hoofdstad van de Smaak! En dat gaan we dus op donderdag
22 maart 2012 herhalen.
Wat staat er naast het Smaakdiner op 22 maart nog meer op het programma van het Whisky Festival Noord Nederland tussen 23 maart t/m 25 maart 2012?
• Veel (buitenlandse) gasten, waaronder internationaal bekende culinaire schrijvers, zoals Hans Offringa, Robin Brilleman, Martine Nouet, Dave Broom en Charles Maclean.
• Veel masterclasses/workshops over uiteenlopende onderwerpen, waarbij er komend jaar in het kader van Groningen Hoofdstad van de Smaak uiteraard veel aandacht is voor de combinatie whisky en voedsel.
• Ons whisky kennis centrum (Kenniscentrum WFNN) wordt verder uitgebreid, mensen kunnen daar leren hoe whisky gemaakt wordt en wat die smaak in de whisky nu zoal beïnvloedt.
• Whiskywandelingen in de kerk, waarbij de deelnemers in kleine groepen kennis maken met diverse whisky’s en de achtergrond daarvan.
• Diverse lekkernijen, kleding, reisinformatie en snuisterijen.
• En natuurlijk veel, heel veel lekkere
whisky, uit alle windstreken.

Whisky Dinner at Restaurant WEEVA
Our
Whisky
dinner at March 22 will take place at a very special
location this year. It will be at Restaurant WEEVA, situated just next
to the Martini Hotel. WEEVA has a long history, which goes back to 1871
when it originally opened as a communual kitchen. Last October it
reopened, with a great wink to the past. For €75-, you can
experience an evening full of great dishes combined with the best

Culinary writer Martine Nouet of the leading international journals Whisky Magazine UK and Whisky Magazine France and Johannes Hovius, Chef of Restaurant W.E.E.V.A. have agreed to create another whisky dinner for Whisky Festival Noord Nederland.
Nowadays, whisky is used more and more in combination with food and drinks, just think of Irish Coffee and whisky cocktail sauces, but this "Dinner of Great Taste" will be more than just a couple miles further down the road. Martine and the chef will only make use of regional produces for their dishes and they worked only with ingredients that are deemed "fair".
In addition to that, the whiskies that will be served with the various dishes are all very special in their own way, but the combination of food and these whisky’s will be even more special.
Martine awill align the dishes and whiskies for the "Dinner of Great Taste" in such a way that the taste experiences of both the dish and selected whisky reinforce each other. Martine has a worldwide reputation in this area and we were very pleased that she will be coming back to Groningen.
Some festival background: Whisky Festival Noord Nederland, running for the seventh consecutive year is a real a success story!
The Whisky Festival Noord Nederland in Groningen is quite different from most other whisky festivals. In Groningen a few 'whisky idiots " are organizing a festival just for the heck of it, it’s not about money, but all about fun. These people are assisted by a growing group of over 25 volunteers, all willing to put a week of their life and sometimes longer to make this party in the Der Aa-kerk a big success.
The first festival was held in Martiniplaza because the Der Aa-kerk was not available at the time. From a logistic point of view this was the perfect location, however the atmosphere of the location was not quite right. Fortunately the Der Aa-kerk with its great historic atmosphere became available and the choice was an easy one. With the help of many whisky importers / exhibitors the festival could be moved to the new location, the Whisky Festival Noord Nederland foundation owes many companies and persons gratitude for their support.
After a cautious start in 2006 the festival has grown into a large public attraction: there have been more than 4000 visitors attending the festival in Groningen in 2011. Everyone wants to be at our great party in Groningen.
On top of that, the city of Groningen has been elected “Dutch Capital of Taste 2011” so we decided to host a “Dinner of Great Taste” on Thursday, March 24th in addition to the regular program of the Whisky Festival Noord Nederland from March 25 through March 27, 2011. And we will continue this new dinner event next year on thursday evening, March 22nd 2012.
What can be expected at Whisky Festival Noord Nederland 2012:
• Many (foreign) guests, and (inter) nationally renowned culinary writers, like Hans Offringa, Robin Brilleman, Martine Nouet, Dave Broom and Charles Maclean will be present at the festival
• Many master classes / workshops on various subject scan be attended, and as part of “Groningen Capital of Taste 2011” it is obvious that a lot of attention will go out for the combination of food and whisky
• Our whisky knowledge center (WFNN Centre) continues to grow, here people can learn how whisky is made and how the taste of whisky is influenced and by what
• Whisky Walks inside the church, participants will stroll in small groups through the festival where they will be discovering a variety of whisky’s and their backgrounds
• Various delicacies, clothes, trinkets and travel Information will also be present
• And of course lots and lots of good whisky, from all corners of the World
